Dean’s head breaks the surface of the murky water and he gasps, sending cool, stinging air into his burning lungs. He treads water as the looks up at the bridge that he and Cas just jumped off. Cas. He hasn’t come up yet.

“Cas!” Dean yells, his voice shaky from the chilly water he’s immersed in.

There’s a disturbance in the water to Dean’s left and then two large wings break through the water. Cas’s head soon follows.

“Cas!” Dean cries, swimming over to the angel and grabbing hold of his shoulder.

Cas spits water out and shakes droplets from his eyes. His wings lay on the surface of the water, listless, as Cas paddles closer to Dean. Dean knows that they need to get out of this lake. It’s far too cold and he’s got a feeling that Cas’s wings aren’t exactly waterproof.
